Why do you have to put in your cell phone carrier when posting an application on a career services website?
I’ve been applying for jobs on Craigslist and I have often gotten redirected to these career websites that I take upon yourself ‘filters’ out disqualified applicants. This happens about 75% of the time I apply for a job. That is fine, but why do I need to place my cell phone carrier next to my cell phone digit? This seems sketchy to me.

I wouldn’t give my carrier to anyone. it sounds like a scam to either change your carrier or to send you unwanted text messages.

welcome to jordan and thank you for by orange gsm network. we wish you a pleasant stay in jordan.
I have registered with Monster and Career Builder and keep getting e mails that all look the same asking for my cell phone carrier. I would take upon yourself they are a rip off but there is an offer on Hot Jobs that leads you to the same type of site. Some of the offers are very specific in their job descriptions. Are these rip offs? Why would an employment agency question me who my cell phone carrier is or if I want more info on educational opportunities? I really need a job though.

Excellent observation. You are right. No one should be asking for cell phone or carrier.

If you ever feel uncomfortable with a question…then there’s doubtless something incorrect.
Why would an employer have to know who your carrier is???
