I am a cook in the military and work outside of our company. My NCOs are bad about not using formations time to relay information. We had a meeting about them having a hard time getting a hold of the soldiers, and i feel that we are getting blamed for their short commings.

Answer by TJHooker
There is no reg for this. If you are excused from formation for other work details it should be up to your NCO to get the information passed to you. It’s part of the NCO creed.

I don’t believe that there is a particular regulation for them doing that. However; the 1SG also has the right to make him hold mandatory meetings/formations if he feels like information flow is not getting to the lowest level.

there is no reg like others have stated. it is their job to get you the info you need and there is nothing saying they cant call or text you. whatever works works.

It is perfectly legitimate for them to use a cell phone to contact you. This is a valid channel for an alert roster. They should put out what information they have at formation, but the fact of the matter is, new information can come from higher after that time, and you need to be reachable so you can receive that information!

You are responsible for remaining available and in touch with your NCOs at all times. If you cannot keep your cell phone nearby and charged (even if it’s off for a short time you should be able to receive voice mail in a reasonable amount of time, say, two hours) then your NCOs would, in fact, be perfectly justified in insisting you remain in your barracks room at all times or fill out a log book every time you leave the barracks, so that they can always find you!

Be smart and be available before the situation gets really stupid for you.

sometimes NCOs are absent minded and slip up.

You should bring it up next time you get your monthly counseling, then ask to speak with the 1SG. That’s what formations are used for, to relay information, other than that your just wasting everyone’s time.
