What is the best 'first' cell phone?

My mother has now chose that it is time for me to get a mobile. I am 13 being ancient. This is going to be my first mobile so I want it to last. I am in 3 sports so the screen has to be durable. I want a filp/camera phone. Delight give me some thoughts on what would be a fantastic first cell phone.

Anything from Virgin Mobile should be a fantastic first phone. The rates are fantastic for a beginner and the phones are so cool, they got numerous flip/camera phones.

It depends..my son is your age and I just got him a go phone from cingular. It is prepaid….25 cents a minute…$ 25 is 100 min and excellent for 3 mons. (You have to reload each 3 mons.) I did it this way just incase it got lost or stolen…stolen was my worry..some kids just get mean, ya know? Anything can happen.
They have all types of pre paid phones, even camera phones. Verizon has a excellent deal for pre paid too..and a free phone.

Ancient-timey cell phones

A couple of my first cell phones that turned up the other day. I reckon I had one other phone that predates these, but I reckon the one on the left is from the mid-to-late 90s and the one on the right is my current phone.

What age were you when you got your first cell phone, and why do you reckon you got it?? What did you do to prove to your parents that you are responsible enough for a cell phone? And delight don’t just say like “1985″ or something like that. Instead can you write like “23″. Okay, thanks!!!

I got one when I was 13, nearly 14.
I’m 15 now & I have unlimited texting and stuff.
My parents didn’t really give it to me. Not like “Here is your cell phone.” It was more like it just drifted to me.
But now I really have more of my own. I picked it out + everything. I have my own line :] Woot.

i personally reckon 13 is fantastic because your a teenager, your in junior high and you certainly are more responsible and need it more.

12. I didn’t have to convince my parents to get me one, they got me one so that I would never be without a way to contact them. Charitable your child a cell phone is somewhat a responsibility for parents, in my opinion, so if you are ever in distress or stuck somewhere you are able to contact them. I don’t even really see how you prove to be responsible enough to have a phone. The only way you could irresponsible with a phone is if you used it to prank call people or something like that.

If your parents are saying you aren’t responsible enough for a phone, that’s their way of saying they don’t reckon you really need it and it’s not a necessary expense.
