Does anyone know of a cell phone service in California for low income seniors?
We do not have Virgin Mobile Assurance, Safelink Wireless or Tracfone in this state and Lifeline is just a discount on landline from At&T. I want just a regular monthly payment. Prepaid plans have to be replenished by credit card and I dont have a credit card.
As I stated, Tracfone service is not available here. I checked their website. But thanks for the info.
500 minutes a month would be enough. I dont gab incessantly and dont use it unnecessarily. Thats why I was hoping for a senior discount.

From what I’ve read online it appears that the California legislature is now blocking (or anyway not allowing) the cell phone part of Lifeline to be in effect, so there aren’t any free low-income cell phone plans available in CA.
What you could do is go to a VA hospital and buy a Tracfone from the retail store there, for $ 10-$ 50 depending on the model. The Tracfones they have there come with 12-14 months of service (Tracfones not bought through the VA only come with 2 months service) and 10-20 units on activation (10 if you activate by calling customer service, 20 if you activate online). You can buy airtime cards practically anywhere – including the VA – and pay cash; they’re excellent for 3 months of service and 60-200 units of airtime depending on what size card you get (buck price is $ 19.99 for 60 units). The 3 months from the card will add to the year of service on the phone, so if you buy a phone and a card you’ll get 15-17 months, then when you buy another card the 3 months will be added to the time you have left on your phone, etc.
I don’t know how much you’d plot to use the phone; some people can get by on minimal facts of minutes while others use 1,000 a month – who can possibly talk that much on the phone?? If the phone you get has Double Minutes for Life that means if you buy and add a 60 unit card you’ll get 120 units, etc. Also you should educate yourself about Tracfone bonus codes, which give additional minutes when you use them while applying a card to your phone.
EDIT:
I read now that the VA Hospital Net10 phones also come with a year of service, and they have 300 units on activation.

I received a text message on my cell phone from playphone saying how I ordered some content, which I DID NOT! I answered “STOP” back and the messages stopeed. On my AT&T account online, it only shows the text messages. Will I still get charged for “subscriping”? Delight, someone help!
