Yagi Antenna; Fact or Myth?? (Real Life Experience Info would be Great!) ?
I have been wondering about these cool things. I have been told that a yagi antenna can boost a cell phone signal. Now I have a very basic understanding of dB, but these antennas aren’t cheap. And the one I am looking at in particular also has an amplifier, and some sort of antenna to mount on a car.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with some sort of antenna/ amplifier combo that claims to boost cell phone reception. Because in most of my area I only can get 1 or 2 bars on Verizon, and now that the G1 phone is only on T-Mobile, well lets just say they have worse coverage.
Thanks, and if I left out any info, just ask for more

YAGI are bipolar antennas suitable for tv frequencies and can work in FM, VHF and UHF bands ~ 600 Mhz max. or less. the amplifiers also work in this bandwidth and cellphones start from 850 MHz… If you want to boost your signal there are specific car antennas for cellphones and i think that they aren’t too expensive.

its not good to start messing with phones in this way the power level is set at a max of 2 watts 1 watt on some types of system for good reason safety higher power may carry health risks also using higher power may give the network problems the system was planed at a max of 2 watts 1 watt on some types of system they could ban you for this

Phone and License Plate, an excuse to hawk a couple of blog posts
(Project 365 Day 283)
Today’s Project 365 photo is just an excuse to direct you to a couple of blog post rants I just wrote.
The phone refers to a rant about how worthless and possibly counterproductive "hands-free" cell phone driving laws are. (California has such a law that passed last year and is due to take effect on July 1, 2008.)
The license plate (that I blacked out in Photoshop) refers to an amusing summary of privacy issues with regard to data-mining, in this case the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s use of cameras mounted on cop cars that automatically record via GPS where they’ve seen all the license plates they come across.
i know i dont understand the economy. however i work in cust service. parents buying there kids cell phones, paying the extreme mounts so they can have “unlimited” everything. Even the poor community. they are still buying there kids top of the line clothing. buying them cars, taking out a second mortgage so they can “keep up with the smiths”. why are americans doing this? why are americans living beyond their means? Our kids are spoiled beyond belief and we as americans are becoming more and more greedy? putting ourselves in debt and putting a strain on the economy because now we cant pay our first second or third mortgage. what ever happened to living comfortably?
if we were to go into a major depression i dont think a majority of americans would know what to do. they would be lost with out the cell phones , and all the food we have at the markets. never the less know how to really prepare and cure there food, never the less hunt it.
ask yourself america, what would you do if you didnt have your cell phones, computers, satelite tv, cars, name brand clothing, the overstocked grocery stores? Would you be able to take care of yourself and your families? i think it is time for americans to live with in there means. NOT beyond their means. what is your opinion america?

Good for you especially in the light of the present economic disaster!

I agree with you completely. I am one of the few that does live within my means, but I too am starting to feel the pinch. I work in the automotive industry which has been very affected by the downturn in the economy. I think I’d be ok without the luxuries, but as far as not having food readily available in the supermarkets, I’d be lost. Americans need to wake up and realize there is nothing wrong with living comfortably within their means.

Considering that Hurricane Ike tore a path of destruction through central Ohio (and at least five other states on its northeasterly path) causing over 2 million Ohio customers to lose power on Sunday and most are not expected to have power restored in their neighborhoods until this coming Sunday at the soonest, people are beginning to get the idea.

it goes beyond americans living beyond their means.
the Federal Reserve is NOT a government institution. however, they have complete control over the money’s people.
they bailed out AIG without taxpayer’s consent, with taxpayer money.
the Federal Income Tax is completely UNCONSTITUTIONAL, as it is not an apportioned tax.
the corporations that stand to benefit from this system, which is basically slavery, lobby your politicians that are in office today so that nothing changes.

Kids are all spoiled, so are adults?
I’d disagree with your assesment of the people of America.
Certainly a few people have too much debt, and the government is probably the biggest problem with debt, the real problems are concentrated in a few firms making poor decisions. AIG was insuraning against losses on loans that they set aside no assets as back-up for making the payments against looses they were insuring. The government allowed this by passing legislation (McCain was a big supporter of this sort of deregulation) allowing companies to make poor financial decision w/o government oversight, jeapordizing the effectiveness of the entire economy.
Clearly, if it was too important to allow the firms to fail, then it should have been important enough to regulate them, and save the taxpayers money at the expense of a few people not getting quite so rich…
