Is it worth the extra money to buy a Garmin 265T (with traffic) instead of a 255?

Is it worth the extra money to buy a Garmin 265T (with traffic) instead of a 255?

I don’t have a cell phone, so the main difference would be the traffic capability (rather than the Bluetooth). I’m trying to gauge the value of the traffic information agreed by the 265T.

Thanks!
The 255 doesn’t have traffic or Bluetooth, while the 265T has both. A refurbished 255 (with full warranty) can be bought 255W (wide screen) can be bought for less than $ 130 while a refurbished 265WT costs just under $ 175.

Well this is only my opinion but I do know that you will conclude for your final answer at the end :)

For any GPS built-in in a cell phone, based upon what I read and experienced before, it is obviously you will turn your cell phone network on. If at that time you are using your GPS and if someone calls you, the mobile network will interrupt the signal of your GPS which earnings you may loss your GPS signal to direct your way.

In my opinion if you do not use GPS often, it is excellent to buy the traffic one.

But if you will use it often or sometimes, I reckon you should buy GPS device and a cheap cell phone separately. Garmin is a nice brand as it gives you update direction often.

For me I’m using Garmin 205w, it’s very helpful one and still works fine. I bought it about not long ago. May be you may take it as one of your option.

In my opinion, furthermore, I reckon it is better to buy the wide series (4.3inch) too because it is simpler to look as you need more perspective to view while you are driving.

I have Verizon Wireless and don’t plot on changing my provider. I don’t plot on using the Iphone for a phone. I plot on using it for a GPS device, Camera, MP3 player, Record Player, Picture Viewer, games, ect….., but I have no intentions of using it for a cell phone.

The Garmin 550t is the top of the line touch screen handheld GPS. It also has a 3.2 camera built into it. I can pick up one of these for about $ 500.00, but I reckon I can get an Iphone cheaper and place the geocaching app onto it and more.

Answer by chris w
That’s a excellent thought, Your phone plot may even have an upgrade option available that may maybe get you some rebate bucks. My experience with the iphone is that the coordinates are not as exact as the GPS but for geocaching it’s close enough.

Answer by GJ289FIA
They apps are marginally excellent enough for result a cache, but please avoid using a GPS enabled phone to hide a cache. Several caches that were hidden and then posted with coordinates from a GPS phone combo have finished up with serious positional errors. One nearby (to me) cache, when first posted, was ultimately determined to be nearly 200 feet from the listed coordinates. My phone has a caching app, but it is strictly a back-up for when I’m in an area without a dedicated GPS and I’d like to hunt a cache, and I wouldn’t reckon of using it for hiding a cache.

One additional consideration: most dedicated GPS units are much more well-built and weather resistant than a phone. If you’re in heavy brush hunting a cache in the rain, a phone is probably not what you want to be using.
