Yes because it will allow them to communicate with their friends as well as their parents. Also it is good for emergencies to have a cell phone.

its a little uneconomical to make a kid to have their own plan and its only $ 5-15 a month for a line on the plan and texting, but then internet is $ 30+ a month and unlined texting is $ 20. so its kinda ridiculous to have a parent pay for all of that. so i would say that anything over the basic texting and the line could go to having the kid pay(unless u have a family bundle for texting and internet)
