Cell phone family plan with 4 kids. What is fair?

Cell phone family plan with 4 kids. What is fair?

Scenerio: We have 4 kids, 8, 15, 17, and 18 (the 17 and 18 year olds are both seniors in high school). We want to get them cell phones and questioned about a family plot with our current carrier. (I know, our teenagers are WAY behind the times! LOL) Anyway, a family plot is limited to 5 phones, total. Do you reckon it’s honest that we hold off on getting a phone for our 8 year ancient for a couple of being, in anticipation of the teenagers are out of the house, and get their own plot? My husband says that would be unfair to the 8 year ancient… I say it’s ok to make him wait a while… Especially, since our other kids didn’t have cell phones at his age. What do you reckon?

Do not give an 8 year ancient a cell phone, kids should not have phones in anticipation of they are 15-16 at the earliest! What is the world coming to?

I have yet to see why an 8 year ancient needs a cell phone. Let the 8 year ancient know that the phone is a privilege for later and when he/she is 13 or 14 (or grown-up–car pouring age) get him/her a phone.

by that time, the 17 and 18 year ancient will be off your plot and have their own plans.

give all children a cell phone it is only 10 dollars more. And they are able to call any of their siblings in case of emergency. Its all shared minutes so since the 8 year ancient won’t use it a lot, this allows for your two grown-up kids to use it more. The 15 year ancient would use it a lot too. I am 14 being ancient and since I had two grown-up siblings, I was able to get my phone at 13 being ancient, becuase an extra 10 dollars now is betetr then a whole anotehr plot .In the long run you are saving more money, then just two family plans. One is more efficient. And times have altered, these days kids have phones at age 11. If you want, you can hold off on the 8 year ancient although that would be unreasonable, because you would have to give them a new phone in a year increment of 2. i personally strongly suggest you get the plot for all 4. Also so unlimited texting is much simpler at only 30 dollars for 4 people rather then 60 dollars for 2 individual plans. excellent luck:D

I reckon it’s really honest to hold off on the phone for the 8-year-ancient. Why would an 8-year-ancient need a phone? I can see your grown-up kids, as they’re ancient enough to drive or have friends who drive or go seats on their own in general. If your husband really objects, get a cheap pre-paid phone (possibly something like the firefly phone, everywhere he can only call 911 or a handful of other facts the parents program in) for him, with the stipulation that it’s only to be used for emergencies. Cell phones can get quite expensive, and most 8-year-olds, aside from not having much real use for them, would be liable to drop, lose, or break them.

In any case, I say when your teenagers are out on their own (if you’ve got a predictable two-year plot, then go for four more being with this plot, then they can get their own plans for whatever carrier works best wherever they choose to live after college). By then, your 8-year-ancient will be 12, at which point most kids would be just barely at the age everywhere they would start to need a cell phone for things like going seats on their own, and would be at an age everywhere he’d be significantly less liable to break or lose it. For now, just tell him it’s a growing-up thing, he isn’t going to get a phone when he’s 8 only because all his siblings are just like you wouldn’t let him drive or go to the movies on his own just because all his siblings are doing it.

1/17/09 – Well… I estimate I cant say that anymore… I have a phone now finally… =P

Shooting now was pretty cool, and last night was all the better. xD
(for those who didnt know, I shoot guns and cameras) I was much better than last week when I shot after a 4 month break.

This was the first weekend with the new phone on sam’s family plot. Idk how long that is going to last. Doubt its going to last that long. Its been pretty usefull. Im not going crazy with it like what She ^^^ is doing. lol.

Well… Idk how to clarify my relationship with her anymore. All I know is that im comfortable wherever I am.

I cant send in my samsung/canon this weekend, (which pisses me off) but I still like my canon. I really want them to be all beter before their warranties are up.

We would just add 1 extra line and it would be more of a “home phone” type deal everywhere done of our children take it with them unless absolutely necessary. I’m looking for thoughts on rules to enforce and other thoughts to make this successful. Neither my husband nor I want huge phone bills so we aren’t sure what to do. This would save us about $ 350 annually over our home phone though. We now have 4 other shape on Verizon if this matters and our children are ages 8-13.

That’s really not a terrible thought when you treat it that way. That’s a excellent chunk of money to save. Hope it all works out for you!

Look into magic jack as a “home phone” option. You pay once a year at a part of the cost of a normal home phone. I reckon it was 30 or 40$ for the year of service.

It a phone line that uses the internet and works just like a regular phone except computer must be turned on and connected to the internet to work.

I use it and I like it.

Just add another phone line it’s only $ 10 more. If you guys aren’t fine with your minutes right now and won’t worry about going over then you don’t need to up your minutes on your plot. You can limit the time they talk on the phone. I don’t reckon it is a terrible thought.

Answer by iSkittleJugglingOcelot
Well add their friends that they would call to the friends and family and it is completely free. You have over 3 shape and doubtless use more than 1400 minutes a month, so you would get 10 people.

Rules:
Before 9pm only call people on the friends and family list.
And after 9 is when they can call anyone.
