If I buy a new cell phone with my carrier's logo on it, can I put the chip from my old phone in it and call?

If I buy a new cell phone with my carrier's logo on it, can I put the chip from my old phone in it and call?

I just bashed my cell phone and need a new one. I don’t want to extend my contract, but those phone vendors at the mall say I have to if I want a new phone. Can I just buy the phone, insert my current chip, and continue with my current phone plot?

Give this a try:
www.craigslist.org – find your local area on the list.
Search for phones from you carrier. It will be MUCH cheaper, and will not affect you contract. If you stay with a phone from your carrier it will work – no worries…

Excellent Luck!

I now have a cell phone that I like, but want to upgrade to a different one, i use verizon wireless, and i like the service, but i was just wondering if I could just buy a new phone somewhere and use it, because i just renewed my plot, but now i want to change my phone. So does anyone know if thats possible?

Answer by George Y
How long ago did you renew? Verizon has a 15 day policy about changing your mind. You might check with them first and see if you can get a free or discounted phone with a 2-year extension.

You can also buy used phones and have them activated. We’ve done that with phones that family members have passed along when they upgraded. Just be careful if you buy from Ebay or Craigslist, etc, because some people will sell phones that can’t be activated. The phone may have been reported as lost or they may have an outstanding balance on their account.

Check with friends and relatives first. Plenty of people just have to have the latest and greatest – you can benefit with a free phone!

JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOUR PHONE USES A SIM-CARD THEN WHATEVER PHONE YOU WANT TO UPGRADE TO MUST BE FROM THE SAME CARRIER BECAUSE THEY ALL LOCK THEIR PHONES. OR IF YOU’RE BUYING OUT OF THE NETWORK, STILL MAKE SURE IT WORKS WITH A SIM-CARD AND UNLOCKED.
