With a buy one get one free Cell phone sale, do you need two updates?

We have one bring up to date coming up in June, we have AT&T. Could you buy a Buy one get one free cell phone deal with only that one bring up to date?

With AT&T they try and make you add an extra line. If you find someone nice, they may (or may not) let it slide without one. Best way to find out is to go in to your local AT&T store and question a rep.
