Is there a way to check if a cell phone is unlocked?

I tried a promotion for a phone service for 2 weeks, and part of the agreement was that I could keep the phone, even if I cancelled the contract. They claim that the phone willl remain unlocked, but I really don’t trust salesmen. Is there a way to check cell phones to see if they are unlocked or does this have to be done by the store? Thanks in enhancement!

just take out your sim card, borrow a friends, it will work, “if it is unlocked”.
if it “is” locked, it wont work.
you can still unlock the phone very easilly, simply press *#06#
to get the imei digit, write it down, and whatever carrier you choose, they “will” give you detailed support, on how to permanently unlock the phone.

Here is the WORLD’S LARGEST working cell phone brought to you by Cricket Wireless and Samsung. Yes. It really works. It’s a ad in Chicago and people could go up and call or text their friends.

I have a amusing tale about prank calling this phone read it at: www.spudart.org/blogs/randomthoughts_comments /4923_0_3_0_C/

I sold this cell phone to some one on ebay in Canada. The phone is groundbreaking new. It is not branded by any cell phone company. It even included the manual. She is asking for subsidy unlock code from the provider I got it from.
But I didn’t get it from any provider. I got this new motorola razr V3i phone from a friend who does promotions on cell phones. My friend told me it should work with any sims card.
I sold the same phone to someone in Florida & they didn’t have any conundrum. What should I tell this person in Canada?????

If that phone is really not locked, it shouldn’t matter if she’s in Canada or in Cuba; it should work. There are two GSM providers in Canada: Fido and Rogers (who owns Fido now). I’ve used my Rogers SIM in unlocked US phones many times. Everywhere did your friend get the phone from? If he got it from Motorola, you should contact them and they’ll either have the code or will have to reflash the firmware.
