Does Sprint have good cell phone coverage in Florida?

My friend is visiting Florida and I haven’t heard from him since he left. His phone is really sucky and ancient. Is it possible that he just does not have a signal? Is there excellent cell coverage in FLorida?

When my family and I had went to the Tampa area of Florida we drove and we had coverage the whole way from the top of Florida down to Tampa. When we went to visit my roommate’s mother in Miami though we did lose signal for a bit as we drove through what my roommate referred to as Alligator Alley.

I am plotting a road trip from Southern California to New York and am concerned about cell phone coverage in the west half of the country should I run into any distress.
