what is the advantage of having an unlocked cell phone?

What does it really mean to have an unlocked cell phone? I want to also know how much would be my monthly bill for the unlocked cell phone?

you can switch carriers if you want. a lot of times the company say verison will make the phone only work with their company

well first of all if u wanted to keep the phone beacuse u really liked it u could chose a different carrier dat usese a sim card or doesnt basiclly nearly any carrier n u wont have to pay for another phone till u want to or it breaks

If you have a smart phone, you can have it locked without paying anything.

Locking a phone just means that whoever tries to use your phone, needs the password you have set it up with like 7361.

My phone is four to eight digits.

Only advantage of having an unlocked mobile is that it’s less of a hassle to make calls or play games, text or whatever you do the most.

it really depends on the phone and wireless company.

for example- the iphone is more expensive with verizon (unlocked) than it is with the contracted carrier (att)…. depends on your data plot and how much and what you have to pay for.

but a rarz is a basic phone that only requires minutes and text messages.. unlocked or not.

Im with Cingular and I just want a new phone that i can go my sim card into without having to start a new plot or anything. If I go to Cingular directly, they want to charge me an arm and a leg for a new phone because I have to keep my ancient plot. Is there a website or anyone out there that knows everywhere I can get an unlocked cell phone…or at least a cheaper cell phone than what Cingular desires to charge me. Im looking to get a Treo or a Blackberry…or possibly any kind of PDA phone.

why dont you just unlock the phone you have? type your phone model in ebay along with “unlocking kit”

ebay also sells phones that are already unlocked. just make sure you buy from a seller with a excellent rating.

if you really want an unlocked phone I suggest you get one that cingular uses. otherwise some features on a different phone and different plot may not work on yours. if you believe cingular is charging you an arm and a leg for new phone, wait in anticipation of you see some of the prices some seats sell their unlcoked phones for. especially the PDA phones. last time I checked they were in the 5-6 hundred dollar range. you can check eBay for unlocked phones as they tend to be slightly cheaper than other vendors. make sure it’s a legit phone and not a scam. they sell unlocking kits that you do yourself but you need to be careful in the instructions otherwise you’ll screw up your phone and will then really need to get a new one.

Go on ebay. No matter what phone you find, you can look up on the internet how to unlock it yourself. I did it and it was very simple.
