Q&A: could i buy a prepaid cell phone package if all i wanted to use was the cell phone?

i already have a sim card but i want a new cell phone but i cant buy online and i cant find a store that sells phones by themselfs so could i buy a prepaid wrap and only use the cell in it?

As long as it is the same brand as your current Sim card. Only T-Mobiles Sims can be used in T-Mobile ToGo phones, same for AT&T.

verizon has an international plot for blackberry that works well. it’s expensive for the base price plus the price per minute cost. but it was the most reasonable one everyone i knew of used in iraq.

I would recommend a durable 3 or 4 band GSM phone that has been unlocked, so the SIM card from any carrier will work. As much as I dislike ATT, they are hard to beat for world coverage.

It would be cheaper for him to buy one. I take upon yourself if he is in Qatar he is at Al Udeid AB. He could easily go to Doha and pick up a mobile coverage, and I bet there is at least one company at the base.

there are cell phones all over iraq and qatar. (man what a nice deployment he is going to have) and the best deals are the prepaid ones. tell him to get his own phone. there are hodgie shops all around. they sell cell phones. then you just buy a calling card. enter the facts into the phone once. and he can talk all he desires.

local state company’s are going to charge you crazy amounts for being over there. SO not worth it as he doesn’t need a standard month plot. just a pay as needed plot.
