International calls via cell phone (Verizon) using Phone Card?

International calls via cell phone (Verizon) using Phone Card?

How will I be charged by Verizon if I initiate calls from overseas (Italy, Greece, Turkey) by a phone card? I imagine I will be charged for the minutes, but how about the rates? Am I charged only the rates listed on the phone card I’m by? I sure don’t want to get charged for an international call by my cell if I can avoid it. Do you know whether Verizon has access in these countries? Thanks!

You need a special CDMA-GSM phone in order to use your phone overseas, or you need to rent a phone from a 3rd party. If you use your phone overseas, you will be charged a roaming charge usually around $ 2 – $ 4 per minute, no matter what digit you’re calling.

It would really be worse to use a calling card because you’d be paying the same quantity to call that digit versus any other digit and it takes more minutes to connect that way.

you’d be charged the international roaming rate no matter what digit you call, since you’re by an American mobile phone overseas. you will also be charged by the phone card.

the best way to make overseas calls is to use a phone card at a public phone; you can usually obtain a special toll-free digit issued by the card for the country, then you’d be charged by whatever rate the phone card carries. alternatively, an unlocked GSM phone can be used by purchasing a prepaid SIM card (can be available even at a grocery store). international calls are still going to be more expensive than a phone card, but in my experience, the SIM card will be charged for partial minutes (not full, rounded-up minutes like in the US), so a quick call can still be rather inexpensive. the best part is that in Europe, mobile phones are charged only for outgoing but not incoming calls; so if your family members call you on this mobile (you’d be issued a foreign phone digit), it’s free for you to pick up. in that case, they would get the best rates by by a phone card, special international calling plot, Skype, etc. but remember, your Verizon phone will not work in Europe; most of the world uses GSM technology.

Mark Kendall Bingham (May 22, 1970 – September 11, 2001) was an American public relations executive who founded his own company, the Bingham Group. He was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.

He died at age 31 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack on board United Airlines flight 93.

He is believed to have been among the passengers who stormed the cockpit to preclude the hijackers from by the plane to kill hundreds or thousands of additional victims. In a cell phone call to his mother, Alice Hogan, shortly before the plane went down, he told her, "some of us here are going to try to do something."

He was survived by his former companion of eight being, Paul Holm, who says this wasn’t the first time Mark risked his life to protect the lives of others. In fact, he had twice fruitfully protected Paul from attempted muggings, one of which was at gunpoint. Paul describes him as a courageous, competitive man, saying "He despised to lose — at anything." He was even renowned to proudly show a scar he received after being gored at the running of the bulls in Pamplona.

He was a well-built athlete, at 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) and 225 pounds (102 kg), and played on a gay rugby team. In college, he was a star on the Berkeley rugby team, leading them to a string of national championships. In his honor, the annual international rugby competition aimed predominantly for gay and bisexual men was named the Bingham Cup.

Bingham attended Los Gatos High School. He was also president of his fraternity, Chi Psi.

John McCain and Barbara Boxer honored him in a ceremony for San Francisco Bay Area victims on September 17, 2001, presenting a folded American flag to Paul Holm.

Singer Melissa Etheridge dedicated the song "Tuesday Morning" to his memory.

yes that is called international calling even if you have the same company. It would be $ 0.65 per minute. You can subscribe to a international wrap and then it would be $ 0.25 per minute

It will cost you a bit…but your boyfriend will have to pay a lot!:

The Government of Mexico thru the COFETEL (Federal Comission of Telecommunications in Mexico) has established since 2007 the program “El que llama paga” (The one who calls pays).

All mexican cell phone service providers must charge the customer that’s making the call for the full quantity for the service.

It really doesn’t matter if you have airtime in your account -if you have a prepaid cell phone- or a 2 year agreement with AT&T the rule is simple for mexican phone calls: The one who makes the call pays.

But, here’s the catch: If you make a phone call to any mexican cell phone from the US -from a LAN line or a mobile device- you’ll have to pay a US$ 0.13/min fee payable to the COFETEL. It will be deducted/charged from your cell phone account.

But since your boyfriend is calling from Mexico with his US AT&T cell phone he will be charged at least US$ 1.00/min for roaming.
