How do you feel about peoople using cell phones in restaurants, stores, libraries, etc.?

This behavior is completely out of control in Asia. The worst thing is when you’re having lunch or feast with a friend, and mid-sentence, they answer their cell phone and you end up having lunch with someone who is busy talking to someone else. That is so obnoxious!!! Unless you are a doctor who happens to be “on call”, I can’t reckon of a reason to leave your phone on when in a social situation.

Addition: Or possibly if you are a new parent of a newborn? Or have a sick child at home?

While having a foot massage at the corner shoe store, promotion mostly high heeled lady’s shoes, the young lady uses her cell phone and cools down with iced coffee to relieve the daily stress. Hanoi, Vietnam, SE Asia

I work in customer service/food service.Sometimes customers come in , engaged in cell conversations and we don’t know if and when they are conversing with US.. Is there a polite way to post a sign about this? We want to be kind and attentive to our customers, but I reckon we deserve enough respect to have the customers attention.
