What is the best cell phone service based on quality, price and international use?

Anyone used a few different services and have a best in mind? I currently use Cricket/Metro PCS but the coverage wont meet our needs when we start to travel.

Cheers!

Verizon has some of the best plans but AT&T also has some great international plans. The best place I have found to buy a phone without a contract is: http://www.myphonedied.com

The Verizon network is by far the best coverage in the United States. While you are traveling you will maintain service and call quality will not be degraded.

Check out their service in detail here along with coverage maps.

My Maasai Mama
international cell phone service

"After months of intensive studying, field research and writing, our team presented our findings and recommendations to the community surrounding us in the Amboseli Ecosystem (the area around the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro). Maasai morans, mamas, community members, government officials, the Kenya Wildlife Service and countless other representatives came to our presentations. Among them was this Maasai mama, who stepped out to accept a call. This photo is an ideal example of the modern world's expectations of Africa and her indigenous tribes and the reality. It can be said that many tourists come to Kenya to see the wildlife, Kilimanjaro and the richness of the Maasai culture. However, they are almost always disappointed when they see that the Maasai are becoming more modernized–they carry cell phones, they have e-mail accounts and they eat packaged food, and this is frowned upon by those who come to see this "untainted" culture. This photo is a look into the real, progressive lives of the Maasai, not the ones we want to see."

I looked on T-mobile & they have a Nokia phone (the exact one I want) but I dont know if I HAVE TO pay for a monthly plan or can I just get the prepaid plan from T-mobile (with the Nokia) and STILL have international texting??? I’m trying to reach family in Denmark through texting…and right now, I have a prepaid Sprint LG blue flip phone, so can I switch to a prepaid plan on T-mobile and gain international texting or not?

my dad texts me all the time from scotland. i have at&t and it’s a $ 0.25 charge for incoming and $ 0.15 outgoing. it gets quite pricey

Answer by Samwise
I have the T-mobile pay as you go plan with the most complex phone they offer. As far as I can determine from the documentation that came with it, I can text anywhere in the world. However, you pay international phone text rates. This can be quite expensive.
