Cell Phone?

Cell Phone?

I am a Senior Citizen and have never had a cell phone. I think I should have one. But would probably rarely (if ever) use it. What would be the cheapest way for me to go? I do not want monthly charges, maybe pay just for minutes.

Get pre-paid phone

Answer by Shelly
the best phone for you would be a Go Phone or a pre-paid plain

A cell phone will be helpful in an emergency. Choose a prepaid plan that suits your needs.

As for the phone, choose one with a large screen and keys so you it’s easier on you. There are 3 main form factors:

1. Clam shell. This is good because you don’t accidentally press the keys while it is in your pocket.
2. Sliders. This is similar to the above. However you want to check that the mechanism is sturdy.
3. Candy bar. Most Nokia phones are of the candy bar design. From my own experience, it’s easy to forget locking the keys and can result the phone dialling when keys are accidentally pressed. It can be embarrassing when your phone accidentally calls someone.

I recommend getting someone sturdy and cheap without the bells and whistles. Motorola Razr V3 are now selling quite cheaply. Made of metal, they are slim and quite sturdy. The screen is large and bright. They keys are also well spaced. I have fat fingers :-) which makes it hard to text on a smaller keypad. The phone comes with software so you can enter all your contacts on Outlook and then transfer it over to your phone. Saves you the pain of entering it on your phone.

I never text. No one ever texts me except the phone company to tell me my bill is coming. I was carefully examining my bill and found a charge I did not understand. I called and found that I was being charged a flat fee for the privilege of texting, whether I use it or not. I had it shut down. Saved a couple bucks a month but, it adds up. If you do not text, call your carrier, see if you’re being charged too.
As usual, someone has a heavy TD thumb. Not me. My apologies .

I’m not a senior yet, but I think texting is the biggest waste of effing time…just pick up the phone and call for God’s sake.

I know how to turn it on and off and how to charge it. I don’t use the text or the camera. I know how to find the numbers I last dialed.

My son thinks it’s funny that I can use this pc like I do, and can’t figure out the cell phone. I guess you have to have the interest.

Yes, I text on my cell phone. I was forced to learn how to text in order to communicate with my children and a couple of other relatives. They don’t have time for answering the phone call but will always respond promptly to a text message.

I use to have a cell phone but I threw it away. I don’t want to be reached every where I go or 24 hours a day. I have one that I leave in the car for emergencies that cost about $ 10,00 a month and I never use it but if I had an emergency it would be there. So no I never text. I just don’t get that texting thing at all. Before you know it we will stop talking to people all together. It’s ridiculous.
