New cell phone but too early for a discount?

I am looking to get a new cell phone BEFORE I go on vacation July 17 but am not eligable for any discounts until July 27. Any tips or tricks or websites to help me get a new phone before I go without having to pay full price for it. Our plan is with Verizon and is in my husbands name not mine in case you are wondering. I have been checking ebay, overstock and amazon often but have not found a super good deal yet on any of the phones I might be interested in.

i wanted to do the same with verizon and i called and talked to them. the lady said that if you report your phone lost/stolen and you decide that you dont want to pay $ 50 for the same phone you have now, you can get a different phone of your choice for the discounted price. you dont actually have to loose it, you can just say that your phone got lost or stolen, they cant prove anything

because you are so close, contact Verizon and ask them if you can get the discount a few days before you go on vacation. maybe try shopzilla and do some comparison shopping for the cell phone you like. you could also try http://walmart.letstalk.com/product/browse.htm?pgId=100

I’m currently active duty Air Force, I was just wondering what is the best or “cheapest” cell phone service to get… I would like unlimited talk. I don’t care about texting, pictures or internet. Also what cell phone to get? You don’t have to be all technical i just want someones personal experience and opinion. Thanks

As far as I know, most major carriers give out a 10% discount. I know for sure that T-mobile and At&t does. (T-mobile sucks, though!) good luck.

I used AT&T when I was active duty. They offered about 20% off my total bill each month. Of course, it’s not automatic, you must show a copy of your orders at the AT&T center.

usmc wife was right, most carriers only give 10% discount, but hey it’s better than nothing! Just make sure you have a carrier that provides service in the areas you’re going to be in. We’re out in the Mojave and t-mobile doesn’t work worth a damn, so we chose the carrier with the coolest cell phone on sale (a Blackberry for $ 20! with Sprint). It depends on whether you talk more or text more… texting is what can bite you in the a** so make sure you get a good plan for that.
