What do I need to know about buying my first cell phone?

What do I need to know about buying my first cell phone?

I never needed a cell phone until now. I just want a basic cell phone. I don’t care right now for any exciting features.

1) Who has the best cell phone service?
2) What can I expect to pay?
3) Do I need to pay for the phone itself plus the monthly charge?
4) Am I charged for community calls as well as long distance?
5) Do they have pre-packaged phones that I can buy and use…sort of like buying a calling card?
6) Anything else I should know?

Cell service: Verizon
Pay: depending on minutes you expect to use..anywhere from probly 40-100..check verizonwirless.com
phone:you just buy a phone and pay your bill..do a 2yr with a free phone or something…
community/Long distance: im not sure on that one..Long distance is usually free i reckon…
pre packaged: Yes..pay as you go..you buy minutes..

anything else: for cell service you have to have credit.additional wise you have to be over 18..and have a job/employment.

you can buy cellphone with no pre package. it is better because it is an open line, meaning you can exchange sim cards of different mobile operator. because some cellphone are lock to the cell phone operator. there are many sources in the net. try google it.

It will all depend on where you live. Not every phone service is available in all areas. And just because a provider is in your area still doesn’t mean that they will provide all the services they advertise in your area.

Secondly, the most vital business to know: Don’t cell and drive!

Thirdly, go with the pre-paid/pay as you go type of deal. There won’t be any surprises when you pay the bill. Otherwise, don’t be surprised to find you are paying another 30-40% for taxes and fees on top of the confirmed phone service rate. (So if the phone service is advertised as $ 45/month, you will end up paying $ 60-65 per month with taxes and fees.

there are many different answers to all these question, the first that depends on where you live. 2nd anywhere between free and several hundred dollars depending which phone you choose 3rd in pay for the phone 1 time then a monthly charge to use the service any by contract or prepaid 4th all phones charge per call so carriers have free incoming plans. and nation wide long distance is in built-in for most carriers for free. just uses the phones airtime minutes. 5th yes several companies offer prepaid phones and plans.
