Tobacco shops seem to pay a central role in European life. They are everywhere and they seem to be the standard place to "top up" prepaid cell phones. Smoking laws are similar to US smoking laws, but the best part about smoking in Europe is that no one ever gave me one dirty look or treated me rudely for smoking anywhere. In San Francisco, I average about 5 dirty looks per cigarette, so it felt fantastic to be treated like a creature in Europe.
