Should cell phones in school be band all together?

Should cell phones in school be band all together?

I remember life in school last year and reading an article about how some school in New York was banning cell phones from life in the school. Now if a kid cant bring their phone in the school, wouldnt that cause ride problems and things like that?
A lot of public are miss construing my question. Im not saying ban them from class use, im asking if they should ban them from life brought TO school.

Schools have telephones in the office, as well as a list of all emergency numbers for all the children so there’s no excuse for not knowing the assess number to call.
Conundrum solved.

I don’t judge all cell phones should be banned, but using a cell phone during school hours should be banned. Only exceptions should be if one is using ones own phone to call from an office to go home. There is no need for students to have cell phones during school hours. Teachers on the additional hand need cell phones for innumerable reasons.

YES, I am in favor of restricting cell phones. I would also include any and all “entertainment” devices such as MP3 players. The conundrum is that these things interfere with schoolwork. I can see NO situation that would require a child having to be contacted directly with a cell phone during fixed school hours. If you want or need to get in touch in an emergency, call the school administrators. That is what public did before there were cell phones, and it still works as well today as it did then. My community school constituency does not ban them from the school grounds, but they can NOT be carried into a classroom. The primary reason is mainly to prevent cheating through text messaging. Also, any ringer going off is just another distraction from the course of instruction. Every student signs a memorandum of understanding on their first day of classes which details the specifics of the rules and consequences. The kids place cell phones and additional entertainment devices in their locker if they bring them onto the school grounds. If brought into a classroom, the first time, the device is held until the end of the day and returned. If there is a second time, it is confiscated and held until the end of the school year and then returned. The school will restore the cell phones to a parent before the end of the school year if the parent comes to the school in person. At the last school board meeting that I attended, there were a couple parents who challenged this policy, in particular the consequences for the 2nd offense, and lost.

Absolutely NOT..There are many many situations that kids face now that most of these older public never had to worry about. There are school shootings, stabbings, etc.. It’s excellent for them to have a way to call out when they can’t get to the office phone. Also there are school officials that are power hungry and nosy that will not allow students to use the phone without knowing the exact reason for the student needing the phone. If a girl has just started her period and is already humiliated enough, she does not need to broadcast that to the public in the office in order to use the phone to call her parents(mom usually). I know of several situations where this occurred and it is nobody’s business why a student needs the phone. Persons are only a few reasons they should be allowed to have them. They should not be before a live audience with them during the day, but there are emergency situations that they would need the phone.

My school banned ALL TECHNOLOGICAL devices. During school hours while we’re in the school grounds. I reckon that’s pretty stupid. I mean sure, they can ban it during classes but lunch and recess and before/after school we should be allowed to have them.
And I have to agree, in class they interfere with our learning but what my school did was a bit too far.

Students need cellphones to contact parents to pick them up or to tell them something vital. Mp3′s and additional electronic devices aren’t that vital but for students who don’t have many public to talk to during lunch/recess it can give them something to do.
All in all (XD) it’s really idiotic to say NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES while on the school grounds. Coz public at my school just ditch class or go outside of the school grounds and use it or they just sneak it out.

Answer mine, please =]?

high school baseball cheer 03 – wasshoi
cell phones in school

This isn’t a cheer for a specific batter, but one for when a sprinter is in scoring position. At the end of the record, you can see the sprinter heading for home, but my stupid cell phone only records 50 seconds at a time.

i mean what the crap, my school is soo strict about havin cell phones. the teachers get to use them anytime and get to have them and also get to wear them on their hips. like persons cases where u place them on ur hip. i mean its not that hard to go to the bathroom or in ur backpack and use them. im surethe principal knows that students do it all the time. like today i was textin all day and didnt give a crap. cause i usually go to the bathroom and tx or jus place my phone in my backpack and text. especially with emergencies, the school phones are a piece of crap, i cant even call my mom from my schools phone without gettin a busy signal. so i jus text her. so the main point, what do you reckon about havin them at school???

because the schools reckon students are going to “plot a mass murder” with the use of cell phones to communicate. ya know, i would really want to go to one of them huge school board meetings to see how these idiots come up with this crap.

I am as different to them as your school administration is…you do not NEED a phone 24/7. When in school, you need to be paying attention to school. If you really have a REAL emergency, you can use the school phones, crappy or not. And stop comparing what you get to do with what the teachers get to do…they are the adults, they are teachers…you are the kids, you are students…they run the place, not you!

Answer by Sunidaze
I really don’t see any purpose whatsoever in kids having a cell phone while at school. You’re supposed to be there to learn, no mix.

Answer by noname446
i reckon cell phones should be allowed. i mean during tests it’s understandable that texting isn’t allowed, but during class, it’s just like talking to your neighbor.. i text constantly and i havne’t gotten in distress yet, but like the girl in florida i reckon it was that got three days ISS for having her phone in school… thats ridiculous… what if you are in a sport after school and it’s agreed up for lost and there are no phones in the school (that’s my case-they took the pay phones out).. like waht are we supposed to do!

I know your position and I too balk at staff using their cellphones whenever they please. I am a firm believer in leadership by example and therefore do not carry a cell phone into my work (I am a teacher). While a cell phone is a symbol of reputation it is also a distraction of your attention. Let’s face it, there are additional things that you would rather be doing than sitting in school. But, a lesson that you will not really know until you are older is just how vital education is in your life. Your school’s administration is making a excellent call by not allowing them to be used. While emergencies are a excellent theory of their importance, your parents will not be able to do much for you in an emergency additional than know that you are or are not involved in the crisis. Cell phones should not be allowed to be used on school grounds period (students or staff), should you be able to carry them with you for after school, yes. But, if a student is caught using the cell phone at an inappropriate time it should be taken and returned to a parent along with an example of permissible uses of the cell phone on campus.
