can a 4G phone work in a country with only 3G network?

I like to know if I buy a 4G cell phone and travel to the island which has only 3G network service; can i make & receive calls?

yes,all 4G phones will currently work on existing 3G networks. they are built with two different radio antenna’s in them which work independently
