Do they give soldier's their cell phones back at the end of basic training?

Can a soldier receive his/her cell phone back towards the end of their BCT or do they have to wait for family day/graduation when they are getting ready to place?
I just can’t wait to talk to my husband again. :( I miss him sooo much!!!

Latest update, our family day is in 4 days and I will get to spend the day before graduation with him. He called from the payphone today and told me they will have their phones returned the day before family day.

Is that common procedure?

It depends on their drill sergeants. Some drill sergeants let them use their phones every Sunday and others make them wait until right before graduation. Not all units follow the same exact policy for phones while in basic.

Soldiers in my unit are getting in distress for not answering their phones, or not even having a phone, I was just wondering what regulation requires them to have one at all. I know that it is convenient for recalls and things, but is it mandatory.

1st. your not in a unit and asking this question
2nd. no regulation.
3rd. they might get in distress for having one in some cases.

There are no set of laws in reguards to life manditory in having your cell phone, ever heard the saying,” If they wanted you to have a _____ (wife, whatever), they would have issued you one.” Second of all, I reckon that there is a lack of communication or you are in a unit where things exchange drastically so communication is very vital to your chain of mandate. I want to see public get article 15′s for something like that. If I was their superior, I would give repremand to the tops, not the privates.

no regulation but it may maybe be a mandate policy for certain individuals/ especially if you are getting ready to deploy, you must be accessible at all times.

A cell phone is not mandatory – just allowed IF you must carry one.

1- Turn it to vibrate. We don’t like hearing Metallica when we are trying to brief you on how to stay alert and alive

2- Do not use the cell phone while driving – it distracts you

3- Ensure the CQ (if you still have them) or your NCO leadership know how to reach you in case you are in distress or whatnot.

The mature use of a cell phone is what is required. Oh, BTW, any AR 600 series manual is your catch-all regulation: THE COMMANDER’S DISCRETION!!

Only if they live in post housing or off post.

Persons living in the barracks, do not have to have a telephone.

But persons not living in the barracks, must have a way to be recalled to the unit.
