Best international cell phone for 5 months in Denmark?

Best international cell phone for 5 months in Denmark?

best international cell phone plans
by quapan

I’m going to be in Denmark for 5 months this fall. I currently have AT & T Go Phone as my cell service here in the US. But I’m looking for a low-cost international cell phone plot for when I’m in Denmark so I can call public back at the US. What is the lowest price plot out there? It doesn’t have to be with AT & T any, I’m bendable.

Also I’ve read about the Mobal world phone: http://www.mobalrental.com/gsm/handsets.asp?c_name=Denmark
Is that legit? Is there anything better out there?

I travel a lot for myself and I can tell you that result cheap phone service is not simple. When I was in Aruba my Dad wanted to talk to me about the house we bought. So he emailed me and told me to give him a call. My Dad, the world traveler that he is, didn’t even reckon to consider the cost. I nearly threw caution to the wind and called him…but my better judgment told me to find out the price per small. Long tale small…it would have been something like 4 dollars a small to call the US from Aruba…I promptly emailed him back and clarified that electronic paper would be cheaper.

It looks like you have a few options with the limited research I did. Many of these options will require you to have a GSM Quad or Tri Band phone.

Option 1: Using Your US GSM Service

It seems this would be a viable option if you just wanted to be capable of using your phone in case of an emergency. It doesn’t sound like that is what you want to use the phone for so I wouldn’t go with this option since it pretty expensive.

Option 2 : Buying a Phone with HopAbroad, Riiing or Mobal service

This seems to be a viable option as well. Mobal is legit as are the others listed. The only issue I see with this solution is that the cost is still positively high. You can check out the tariff and further information with the links supplied.

Out of the options above, Riiing seems to be the cheapest option based on your length of stay and it only life one country. Mobal is more for the traveler on the go whose fill in concern is convenience and not cost.

Option 3 : Buying a Phone and Individual SIMs

I reckon this would be the best option for you. The plot would be to buy a GSM Quad or Triband phone, travel to Denmark and buy a pre-paid SIM Chip locally, and then use the Nobel.com phone card service to call the states. The phone card will work because you’ll be dialing a community access number in Copenhagen and not a 1-800 number.

The way I map it, maximum cost, a GSM phone would cost maybe 150 – 200 dollars, community prepaid SIM card maybe 50 – 60 bucks, and then a rechargeable phone card for 20 bucks.

That is a whole of 280 dollars maximum, and then 20 bucks each time you run out of minutes.

The phone card on Nobel was 2.9 cents a small. For 20 bucks that is 690 minutes or 11 and a half hours of talk time. Combine that with the community rate for the community connection number and you are looking at about 13 to 23 cents a small for a call back to the states, my best guess not knowing Denmark's phone system first hand. Compare that to anywhere between 52 cents a small to 13 dollars a small.

There is a considerable cost if you don’t already have a GSM phone, but you get to keep it and when you go back to the states you can simply exchange SIM Chips and you should be excellent to go assuming it is unlocked and all that…which it should be in order to place the foreign chip in.

The only part you lose out on is the SIM Chip, which you would have to buy for Riiing or Mobal anyway.

P.S. I wrote you an email and you didn’t answer back to me, this is my attempt to get in your excellent graces. ;)

Excellent Luck!

I’m so pleased someone questioned this. Sometimes I feel like I know some secret. I have family in Switzerland and France. It isn’t Eastern Europe but I reckon what I am to share will work there as well.

Hold a pre paid cell phone. I bought Virgin Mobile AudioVox 8600. You can call Europe for the same price as you call anywhere else in the US and Canada. The plot I have with them is a monthly; where it’s .60 cents a day, you get a “inner Circle”, calls free after 7 p.m. with any mobile phone, if you call before 7 p.m., it’s 10 cents a small. What my family has done is use Virgin Mobile Inner Circle, and we call each additional free anytime, there are exceptions to this ‘rule’, but we play it safe.

If you chose not to get any sort of plot, and want to try the Virgin go ahead, it will be 25 cents for first 10 minutes and then 10 cents a min after that. Still wayyyyy cheaper than using additional mobile providers.

I bought my Virgin Mobile at Wal Mart at the time for 80 bucks, I recently saw there were some even better Virgin mobile phones available at Wally world for 29 bucks. You will get some airtime, but you be better to buy a card, 20 bucks will do you. And this can be just for your family/friends in Europe and you don’t have to worry about carrying a contract.

Excellent luck, delight in chatting !!
