What are some of the options for cell phones for kids?

What are some of the options for cell phones for kids?

I am looking for an easy to use kids cell phone preferably with locating device and pay as you go… Do they all have a monthly service charge or can you just buy minutes and have no other bill?

Answer by PuppyloverMonica
Get a tracfone you reefill the minutes by buying cards. U use the minutes to text and call. Or get a firefly, you pay for the phone you plug it into your computer, and you put in emergency #s and you can only call the emergency #s..

Answer by chi_townjake00
Well the woman that said get the trac fone and firefly phone was right you could choose that. BUt after awhile that gets kind of pricy. I suggest you buy a cheap phone from t-mobiel and then sign up for the service that lets you either add or subract the amount of messages and text messaging. So if your kid gets an A, raise his text messagin. If he doesn’t do his/her chores subract minutes. But if you really want pre-paid phones then once again sign up for tmobile and go with the prepaid plan. Here are the pre-paid cellphones that they have right now.

Hope that helps!

WTF?

Sometimes I think I’m becoming a conservative. Now, I know that this is probably marketed as "cell phones for kids in case of emergency", but somewhere in some cell phone exec’s desk is a plan which states:

1) Get parents to buy cell phones for kids in case of emergency.
2) Ring tones!
3) Profit.

WHY do all these parents buy their spoiled kids cell phones, and then gripe when they run up a $ 400 bill? The idea of 9, 10, 11yr.olds having their own phone is RIDICULOUS! The same with thong panties and padded bras! Why buy this crap for a KID? They may as well let them hang a sign on their neck that says “COME AND GET IT BIG BOYS!”
When my 14, and 11yr. old asked me when they could get a cell phone, I told them “When you get a job and pay for it yourself”!

im 14 and i wanted a cell phone a year ago SO bad and when i got it i regreted wanting it b/c i used it maybe 5 times a year! my mom does buy thongs for me though :)

Answer by ami l
my 9 and 12 yr old both have a phone (pre-paid) it is their responsibility to do chores (aside form reg) to earn money to buy minutes for their phone. i think it teaches them how to save for what they want teaches them to be more responsible with a little perk no money no phone that’s our rule

Answer by ChocoTy
Thats why they need a pre-paid….they can only use the amount put on the phone …thats it …after thats gone …oh wellthey gotta wait til you feel like putting more minutes on their phone….

Answer by beach_luver5
I agree with you! It is so ridiculous that parents do that! The only reason that I had a cell phone when I was little was because I flew on airplanes a lot, and this was just to keep intouch so my dad would know I was safe.
Thongs and padded bras for little kids? Ewww. That is just sick!
