Cell Phone External Antenna Distance?

I want to buy a external cell phone antenna, though i have many different options, i just need to know a few things. How many miles away will a 15 dbi, 11dbi, or 9bi reach? any help appreciated. Thankyou

first of all, ANY NUMBER followed with an “i” means that the gain figure is referenced to an isotropic antenna. An isotroptic antenna is a lab system and not real life. dBd is the best way to measure gain… dB by a dipole in free air.

Next, the higher the dB gain, the better.

HOWEVER, it is impossible to answer your question. You need to know;
enviroment – hilly, flat, wooded, open, over water, over clay… ALL have different characteristics
feed line – RG303 – real quality coax or junk made with low quality hardware. Low loss coax or junk.
configuration – thru the glass or hard mount

it is impossible to refer to distance without all the facts.

I live in an area with marginal cell service. Verizon is the only company that has been able to get a signal here so far but the signal is still weak and sometimes non-existent. Is there an external cell phone antenna that i can connect to my phone to get a better signal for calls and data? The antenna would need to work on a digital CDMA network.
I would also like one that is DC powered, but if it is not an option than it is no huge deal.
I would like it to be able to work with a Droid X as I am attracted in getting one.

There aren’t any external antennas for phones but you can get a network extender that plugs into your home internet and will give you a boost of Verizon service
