overprotective parents?
i am 14 and my parent are way too overprotective but every time i try talking to them about it, they send me to my room. These are the rules:
1. i must ride in my compass high back booster seat at all times (i am 4’10 and 76 lbs!)
2. i am not allowed to have a cell phone until i turn 16
3. only pg movies, and they must be watched at home with my parents
4. bedtime at 9
5. no doors closed or locked
6. 1 hour of tv a day and 20 minutes of computer a day
7. homework done first on friday before going anywhere
8. bath time is set for 7 o clock
9. if i go to the movie theater, i have to go with my parents no later than 6:30, and the movie must be pg
10. if i ride my bike i can only go down my street with a helmet
11. i am only allowed to ride in additional public’s cars if our van is broken or my mom has no way of alternative me up
12. if i ride in someone else’s car, i must be in my booster seat
i am going to be a freshman in high school.
no there is no reason they have discussed with me about the booster seat issue. i know i am small, but i am a teen and shouldn’t have to sit in a baby seat. it sucks riding in it cause it looks like a car seat and i am picked up and dropped off form school in it. i have questioned my parents if i can sit without it, but they yell at me and tell me that if i can still fit in it, then i need to sit in it for safety reasons!!!….ughhhh

Well I reckon some of the rules are fine…(such as the homework rule and the PG movies) but I reckon the booster seat is a bit overboard….is there a reason for them life so strict about this? has there been a car accident previously?
Anyway even if everyone thinks this is incorrect theres nothing anyone can do about it…the only business you can do is talk to them and clarify that some of the rules seem to be for children much younger than you….if they don´t want to exchange the rules I´m worried theres not a lot you can do…they are your parents and what they say goes

Wait until your 18, tell them to drop dead, and place forever

I reckon they are over protective. You are 14 and u cant watch pg 13 movies? I reckon they should at least give u a phone when you get into like 8th grade, it will pretty miserable without a cell phone. when u try to talk to your parents about it, start yelling at them or don’t go to your room until you talk about it. And at least take you out of the booster seat, I mean you are in middle school and that’s a small embarrassing, but i had to stay in a car seat until like 5th grade.

the booster seat business is rediculous. you are not a baby anymore, honestly!
talk to your parents at least about that because i imagine its embarrassing having to ride that not only in your car, but in additional ppls cars. i would die if i were you. your parents are REALLY overprotective. do they have a reason to be this way?
i reckon you should talk to them about some of these rules they have and tell them you are not 7 years ancient anymore you are a TEENAGER and you deserve to be treated like one. they should know, they where once teens.

wow that sux man! and i thought my parents were over protective! well really alot of persons rules apply 4 me 2. like no pg13 movies or M movies, the only reason i got a cell phone was coz it was my sis hand-me-down, bedtime preferablly at 8:30 but 9 is ok, 1 hour of tv a day preferablly, homework done and music practise everyday b4 anything else, im not even allwoed 2 go ANYWHERE except the movies or a friends house and it has to be with someone my mum knows, i was only just let off on the bike rule this year, my mum isnt a huge fan of me going in additional peoples car unless she knows them and thinks they r classy and so on. and im 14 2 so dnt worry ur not the only 1 i feel ur pain. tho the booster seat business is exceptionally ridiculous i stopped having 2 sit in 1 of them wen i was like 4 or 5 just talk 2 them and if they yell yell bk and dnt give up till they let off on somethings. also talk 2 ur friends.

I’m a senior in college, and I have been fortunate enough to land a decent job while I’m there. I got hired as the director of an afterschool program, which I delight in and will be a fantastic resume booster after college. I don’t plot on staying there forever (of course, they don’t know this is my “stepping stone”) because I’m only making about 1200/mo. (I only work 2-3 hours daily Mon-Fri., so I can’t complain) ANYWAY, I hadn’t anticipated school getting in the way because my work schedule is pretty bendable; but, it just so happens that a class that I HAVE to take this semester is only offered at a time that overlaps some of the time that I HAVE to be at the childcare facility (I have to be there at 2, the class ends at 230, and its 15 min. away). It only meets once a week, and so far, I’ve just been leaving early, but i can’t do this all semester. Also, I have started lessons 2 nights a week from 5:45-8…well, I just found out that this childcare facility has chose that we will now stay open until 6 (rather than 530), which earnings I won’t be able to keep the lessons job (the lessons hours are non-negotiable since i work with children who have curfews and bedtimes). Also, I run a freelance writing business, and lately, I’ve had to turn down countless writing opportunities because I’ve been obligated to school or my dead-end job. On the additional hand, freelance work doesnt provide security, so I can’t depend on it as my primary source of income (even if I do aspire to be a full-time journalist of some sort one day). I also have a weekend job as a bookkeeper for a community business. I work 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sat. and Sun., and I make about $ 150 for the whole weekend. It’s not fantastic money, but it gives me some extra for spending, since most of my additional income goes to bills, and my employer there is fantastic about letting me have time off any time I need it. I have worked their for nearly 7 years (I was full-time there before I got the new job), so I’ve established a fantastic working relationship with them. ANYWAY, I feel like I never have time to relax. Through out the day, I’m hopping from school to work and when I get home at night, I do homework and go to bed. Then, on the weekends, I have to work another job. i work 7 days a week and it still barely leaves money left over after bills, so I can’t really quit, and I beyond doubt can’t quit school…I’m stressed about this class interfering with work (or the reverse, I should say)…..how do you balance so many things?? Help!!
By the way, I should clarify that I live on my own too…so I have rent, utilities, gas, groceries, cell phone, etc. to pay for. thanks!

Welcome to life…lol ~ this is how a lot of us feel, so you’re not alone. Is the class that is interfering with the job offered online? If so, take it as an online class. The best way to juggle is to make out a written schedule with every task that needs accomplished and give it a time slot. It may sound ridiculous, but I have Sunday-Saturday scheduled to every hour (now, I don’t always follow the schedule but at least I know what needs done and when it needs done). I’m a single mom to a son with autism, so we thrive on routine… in addition, I work full-time and concentrate full-time classes + I have to get my son to and from daycare and occupational therapy, help him with at-home exercises, supervise and help with his homework time (generally 60-90 minutes each night), take care of home maintenance (inside and out), pack lunches for the both of us, take him to and from extra-curricular activities, etc… and the list goes on. Throughout the school week I’m up at 6:00 a.m. and generally get to bed at 3:00 a.m. Luckily, on Saturdays and Sundays I can usually get 7 hours of sleep or I’d be close to death by now. It sounds like your chaos will soon be over (if you’re a senior), so you won’t have to run so ragged for too long. You have to choose your priorities… if you have to take this class but it will cause you to lose your job, then you’ll have to see if your job will give you flex-time or you’ll need to place in your notice. If the job is your number one priority, then you’ll need to drop the class and make it up through an online class, or with summer school. I place work each day and list my priorities (out loud in the car, public quick by probably reckon I’m crazy…lol): what absolutely has to be done, what needs to be done, what I’d like to get done, what should get done, and what can wait. The list usually goes like this:
What absolutely has to be done:
dinner, homework for my son, showers, packing lunches, studying for a test (me)
What needs to be done:
dishes (especially if they’ve piled up), taking out the trash, putting up the laundry, homework for me, my son’s at-home exercises
What I’d like to get done:
vacuum, dust, make restore phone calls, organize the cds
What should get done:
filing, paying bills
What can wait… everything else that’s on the to-do list
*** This really helps me map out what absolutely has to be done, and what can wait for the next day… or week. Excellent luck! The craziness will not last forever, you just have to choose what is your absolute priority.
