cell phone for kids
by Cayusa

My son is nearly 8, and I want to be able to drop him off earlier at school, before they open the doors. So I need to get him a phone. I now am with T-Mobile, and was looking at the FireFly, but apparently that can only be used for Cingular. I don’t really want to switch carriers. SO, what phone would you recommend for a child?

TRACFONE, hands down! I’ve been by one since I was 14, and I still have the exact same phone now that I’m 18. No amusing charges, you buy him minutes in any increment from 40 to like 400, I reckon. NO suprises!

Phone currently are so sophisticated and not only that it’s hard to keep track of your minutes, especially for a child. My recommendation for your son would be the Motorola v188, Motorola v195, or the Samsung t209.

you and your kids can all use DISNEY MOBILE. You can set the limit for the kids minutes and you can see everywhere there located with some family center feture! SO THE WAY TO GO! Theres also the firefly for cingular… you can set like 20 #’s that they can call.. and it has a CALL MOM button and a CALL DAD button

I am in like with the Disney phone plot.

It includes:

Call Control
This web-only feature lets you, as the Family Administrator, set up a schedule for the time of day and day of week your kid’s Disney Mobile phone can be used. Set up a list of Always On facts so your child can reach you or other family and friends even when phone is restricted. You can also make a list of Prohibited facts

Family Alert
Family first! Send a priority message to one or all family members simultaneously. These priority messages appear on the phone's main screen when received, so vital messages aren't missed.

Family Locator
Locate your kid's phone by GPS technology. Get a house of your kid’s phone and a map of the house without calling. All adults on the account can use Family Locator from their Disney Mobile handset or the Disney Mobile website. All Individual & Family Plans come with 5 Family Locator requests per month.

Family Monitor
Stay in control of your family's wireless spending. Check usage, and as the Family Administrator, set voice minutes, text and picture messaging allowances, and receive an alert when an allowance is reached. Also, Family Managers can set spending limits on downloadable entertainment content that both you and your kids can delight in.

Unlimited Mobile to Mobile Family Calling
Because family comes first with Disney Mobile, you never have to use your service plot minutes to make or receive in-family calls. Delight in unlimited calls to and from family members in your Disney Mobile Family Plot while on the Disney Mobile network.

It sucks they only have 2 phones up now but there’s a red one with Disney on it and a regular looking one.

This was him trying to mess with my new phone! He now has my Sony Ericson. I really am not for kids & cell phones, but it is better for him to have one just in case.

Get a kajeet phone. Its like 5 dollars a month. And the phones are cheap. Theres GPS tracking. And theres free parent stuff. And theres no contracts. And its made for kids.

Answer by boysandaprincess
kajeet is the answer for your situation.

They offer no contract prepaid cell phone service for kids. You can get her a cheap, refurbished phone for less than $ 20. The cheapest plot is $ 4.99 a month (remember no contracts, so it’s risk free!) offers 10 minutes talk time. It’s the perfect emergency phone. There are no hidden fees, or taxes. Seriuosly, it’s just $ 4.99…That’s the final cost. Unheard of with cell phone companies who tack on so many charges that an extra line they claim is only $ 9.99 ends up being around $ 30!

Anyway, to add GPS the first month is free to try and then after that it’s $ 9.99.

So for around $ 15 a month you get piece of mind. You can contact your child at any time! You can set it so she can’t call anyone but you or grandma (or whoever) and no one can call her. The parental controls it offers are AMAZING.

Anyway, you can save 15% off any phone if you go here:
www.kajeet.com/1115
The discount will automatically show up in your cart.

We have 3 boys who use kajeet. We LOVE them!
