Q&A: Why do customer service personnel at AT&T cell phone stores always give you their business card when you go?

The personnel at AT&T stores always give you their business card. Sometimes they forget and offer more than once. It’s obviously in their schooling but why? Do they get commission, is it for the appearance of excellent customer service and availability? I’ve gotten so many and haven’t used one, it seems a small ineffective and wasteful.

My brother works for AT&T.

These folks work on commission and have sales quotas they are vital to meet. Handing you their business card is a excellent business practice and is a gesture to show you that they are willing to go the extra mile and they will personally handle any situation that you may have pertaining to your phone service.

Because they partly work on commission and want to get a repeat customer if they have done a excellent job. They also want you to have their name so that when you call back and say there is still a conundrum, they can question “Who did you talk to?”

Answer by bobby
they do this simply for a future possible sale and commision. it would be the same reason if you went to a auto car lot and a sales mean approches you he will tell you his name and give you a card. this way you are obligated to him for any future possible sales.

Okay, I have a Nokia 6103b (ancient phone kinda) and a T-Mobile plot that I just started in Dec ’06. Now the hinge broke, and instead of doing a insurance claim (thank goodness I HAVE insurance on it) I kinda wanted 2 get a USED pink Razor phone and place my current Sim card in it or something, and use it. BUT can you do that? I know they sell Razors in the T-Mobile store, so I’m guessing that would work? But what do I need 2 do 2 be able 2 do it. Can I just buy the phone, insert my Sim Card, and that’s all? Or do I have 2 take it up 2 the T-Mobile store, let them do something magic (or will they not do it since I did not buy the Razor from them) and then they have 2 change my phone plot? Will it change the cost of my plot, is it even possible?!? I am sooo clueless when it comes 2 this, never done it, only have had the “free” phone with each plot. Want to try something different I estimate. Also, anyone have a Razor? Excellent phone, or terrible phone? Advice on Razor or this process would be fantastic!
Also, not to be pushy, BUT I REALLY need advice ASAP, due to the insurance claim time! So delight any advice as soon as possible would be fantastic! (Along with it you know any excellent’s or terrible’s about the Razor as a phone, OR if you can tell me if it’s possible to switch the ancient sims card into a used phone without distress. THANKS GUYS!

As long as the used phone is unlocked, you’ll be able to use it with any provider. Try putting in your sim and see if it’s gonna work. If it gets a signal, well it’s unlocked and if it did not get any signal… I’m sorry but you have to get the phone unlocked at a mobile store and it’ll cost you at least 20 bucks the most.

I personally don’t like the razor… it breaks easily…

Take the new phone to T-Mobile and let them do their thing on it for you. That is what they are there for. They may even have some fascinating in commission tips for you.

Yes, it is as simple as taking your current sim card out and puting it into a “t-mobile” phone. When you save your contacts you may have had an option to “save to sim” or “save to phone”- save to sim so all your #’s will transf. to new phone. Don’t know too much about razor, some ppl say the speaker phone sucks-that’s all I can reckon of. So if you buy a used phone it HAS to be a t’mobile phone. Phones are usually “locked” to a network. If they don’t make your phone any more the insurance company will give you a newer model that you may end up to like. So possibly call t-moblie and see what model ins. would give you. Hope this helps!
