Why is it that when a cool new gadget, like a cell-phone watch with a camera, the U.S. and Canada are often _
the last nations to get something like that made for us?
For example, with the watch phone I mentioned, it’s GSM-based, so the claim is that it can be used anywhere in the world but the U.S. and Canada. Yes, I know that we use different types of cell phone network than that, but why wouldn’t the maker of that phone make a version that DOES fit our networks? I’d like to reckon they’d estimate there are hundreds of thousands or millions of people here in those two nations that might like something like that. Wouldn’t you?
I’m not just talking about cell phones in watches, either. That’s just one example. Why are we (again, referring to everywhere I am, I mean the U.S.A. and Canada–I’m in the U.S.) often the last to get something like that, or even worse, why do we sometimes just never get something like that?
Hey, will you come back periodically and check my responses to your answers, delight?
Thanks,
Mike
Hey, South Dakota Duck Soup (I bet),
Thanks, that’s a pretty excellent, solid answer! Don’t be surprised if I vote for it as the best answer! (But I still want to see what other people will say, even though I sort-of doubt someone will beat it!)
Now, SD, in case you wouldn’t mind REresponding, I have a follow-up question for you (and you can add the follow-up answer by editing the original and then adding to that below): So once a cell phone manufacturer making a gadget phone like one that’s a watch makes one that fits GSM, what would stop them from also making one for us later on? Or do you reckon we might see the watch phones for the U.S. networks some while later, just like we did with the first camera phones? Those came here (also manufactured outside), so why not watch phones, right? What do you reckon?
Anyone else wanna place your words in, as well (even though this one from SD_Ducksoup was a pretty solid answer)?
Thanks,
Mike

Canada is essentially tied to the US promote, simply because they are too small in comparison…
We are the last because we are so large of a promote and we have such a huge impact on financial markets. Imaging a product that fails while ahead of schedule-adopted by Wall Street. Given the volume of media covering Wall Street, the terrible news would be a tidal wave and kill the offending company.
Also, with our officially authorized system, there are many more opportunities to litigate against a poorly performing product. So, this is not the house to work out the bugs in your new product. If you place your product in less vital markets, like Sweden or Taiwan, you’ll get lots of feedback and few lawsuits before you go huge in the US. Of course, if it’s really terrible, the US never gets to see it.
GSM was not used in the US in a large part because the phones can interfere with many hearing aids. We have a much tougher officially authorized position on disabilities than most other countries; you have to include them and not discriminate against them here. There has been progress on the GSM front, but the original version was not hearing aid friendly, so we went with technology that was.
There’s a bit of world paranoia about everyone going with US technology, too. Many seats look for an alternative technology, just to show that they aren’t dependent on the US. So, there’s always a promote for something that wasn’t invented here, even if it doesn’t work as well (e.g. hearing aids).
It’s not all terrible — by the time it gets here, it will really work right and be really cheap because they can manufacture them without problems. Sometimes it’s not all excellent to be on the bleeding edge…

She really only runs into problems with the kickboxing warm-up routine when she can’t find a pineapple, fabric softener sheet, and pint of virgin blood.

they are all about the money so more than liable you will or pay a deposit
Answer by Martin G
Assuming that device works, I would expect that you could use it. I don’t know what if any discount AT&T would give you for providing your own phone. Possibly a shorter contract. Possibly an option to get another phone.

No one was going to stop Lisa Rysinger from getting her new iPad 2. There she was March 11, cross-legged in the roped-off line numerous hours before the Pink Hill Mall Apple store would open. It was the first day the new tech delight went on sale.
