Why are there two lines of bars on many Verizon Wireless phones?

I have noticed that on many of the phones that Verizon Wireless there are two shape of bars in the upper left-hand side of the screen. The top line is labeled “EV” and the second line is labeled “1x”. I was told that one of these is the tie for the internet and that the other was service. I would like some clarification on what exactly these two shape of bars really are, thanks!

Answer by Zachary Cort
The bottom bar 1x is how many bars you have to call people and send them text messages. EV stands for EV-DO which is a very quick downloader. So if you have internet, that’s what it uses to prepare the web pages. Also if you are browsing the V CAST music catalog, you must have EV-DO coverage while browsing so you can download songs and whatnot quicker.

The phone booth at the Baa. Thulhaadhoo Health "Centaru" – somewhere at the beach, or at home, someone might be receiving a call!

presuming they work on the same frequency, can two wireless phones communicate with each other without the mother unit?

I know what you are trying to say, but a phone IS full duplex… If you mean can you turn them into walkie-talkies… there are phones that can do that too… they are Nextel’s… but if you want a set frequency that only two different phones can talk to each other… yes, technically that is possible too… the major question that I have is why?

Answer by Chic
If you mean by two phones to talk to each other, yes it can be done. You have to swap out the crystals and retune the circuitry. It would be simpler to just get some full duplex walkie talkies.

Yes, most DECT 6.0 phones have that feature, and I know my Uniden 1868P does it!!

the handset and base frequencies are 2 diffrent frequencies.

the base transmits both sides of the phone call to the handset(s) and the handset transmits only 1 side of the conversation.

while this as a project would be trying if not impossible, because most modern cordless phones use some sort of FHSS, DSS, or other method for at random changing channel, and are digital (encrypted) it would be trying to test..

the best option for attempting this would be one of the first 25 channel cordless phones, but i doubt you will be able to find any…

many newer phones have an intercom feature between phones… I have a panasonic supple DECT phone, with 4 handsets (i can expand upto 6) and i just need to press intercom, and the # for the handset that I want to call (1-6) and the handset rings, and can be answered like a normal phone call…
