what is the cheapest cell phone and plan for qwerty text messaging?

if my primary function for having a cell phone is by text messaging and i want a qwerty keyboard, what is my cheapest option?
i’m attracted in talking on the cell phone but only very minimally.. for emergencies or finding someone i’m supposed to meet up with.

I am with verizon and have the samsung u740. It has a qwery keyboard and was $ 99 with a two year contract. My plot is $ 49.99 with 450 minutes and unlimited text to anyone on any network.

You can sign up for one of Virgin’s pay-as-you-go plans and add monthly text messaging blocks to it. $ 5 for 200 a month, $ 10 for 1000.

are there any plans i could get that would provide unlimited text. i only want the phone for a few calls, but mainly for sms. any suggestions? cingular has options but they seem lame, and equally so for verizon.

I would go with At&t Prepaid “pay as you go” Services. Thats what i went with. I had a tracfone before and i abbsoultly despised it becuz i didnt have unlimited texting.. so i switched to at&t becuz i thought it was the cheapest overall.. It costs only $ 19.99!
