Is it illegal to switch SIM cards between phones without advising the wireless phone company?

I have friends that do this all the time. I was just wondering if that was illegal or if they have to pay a fine each time they do it. Does the SIM card track your records and send it to the wireless phone company? It seems wierd!?

Answer by salvador m
It is not illegal to change your sim cards, and there is no fine if you do this with Cingular.

They can doubtless track, but I’m npt 100 percent certain.

Answer by MM
It’s impeccably officially authorized cos they bill you for the cellular service and not the technology used to deliver the service. Cingular, T-Mobile, US Cellular support SIM technology, but they don’t own the phone companies (e.g. Nokia, Siemens, etc).

The only thing they try and do to keep you on their network is to make some of the phones you get with their plans network “locked”. For example, you get a free/discounted phone when you take out a plot with T-Mobile, there’s a high probability that the phone will be “locked” to the T-Mobile network. U can change the SIMs in these phones too, but will only be able to use the cellular service if the SIM is to be use via their network and not a competitor. Get it?

Dan and I made a wireless Skype phone. Now I can walk around the house while I talk to people on Skype.

So I’m getting a new phone next week and I don’t know which one to get. I really want a full keyboard and a touch screen but I don’t want the keyboard to be on the touch screen. I wanted something like the enV touch but my parents said no because they don’t want to pay for the internet which you must get. Delight help, thanks. Oh, also, as the question says I have verizon wireless

Answer by Brian F
Well, them wanting to not pay for data kind of leaves out the only “excellent” phone Verizon has at all with a keyboard, the Motorola Droid.

Answer by girlw/nolife
Well all of the new touchscreen phones will be with an internet plot, but I know the other day my boyfriend bought a blackberry that is both touchscreen and keyboard ^_^ excellent luck

Answer by hailee

Answer by Erika
My mother said no to the enV Touch, also, because we can’t afford internet charges. Though, I did get the Explorer, which really isn’t terrible at all.
